How this calculator works
SGPA is a credit-weighted average. Each subject’s grade point is multiplied by that subject’s credits, the products (credit points) are added, and the total is divided by the total credits of the semester. Subjects with 0 credits are ignored, so you can leave unused rows as they are.
SGPA formula
SGPA = Σ (credits × grade point) ÷ Σ credits
Use the grade points your university prints on the marksheet (for example O = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8). Grade points on a 4-point scale also work because the calculator only requires values from 0 to 10.
Worked example
Five subjects: 4 credits at grade point 9, 4 at 8, 3 at 8, 3 at 7 and 2 at 10. Credit points = 36 + 32 + 24 + 21 + 20 = 133. Total credits = 16. SGPA = 133 ÷ 16 = 8.31 (8.3125 before rounding).
How to use this calculator
- Enter the credits of each subject.
- Enter the grade point you scored in that subject (0 to 10).
- Select Calculate to see your SGPA, total credits and credit points. Reset restores the example values.
Frequently asked questions
What is SGPA?
SGPA stands for Semester Grade Point Average. It is the credit-weighted average of the grade points you earned in one semester.
What is the difference between SGPA and CGPA?
SGPA covers a single semester. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) combines all completed semesters, weighting each semester by its total credits.
Do subjects with zero credits count?
No. A subject with 0 credits adds nothing to either the credit points or the total credits, so it does not change the SGPA.
Can I convert SGPA to a percentage?
Conversion rules differ by university. Use the CGPA to Percentage Calculator and enter the multiplier your institution prescribes.
Results follow the grade points you enter. Your university’s official marksheet is the only authoritative record of your SGPA.
