How this calculator works
Many boards and universities convert CGPA to an approximate percentage by multiplying it by a fixed factor. CBSE, for example, publishes 9.5 as the multiplier for its 10-point CGPA. Other institutions use different factors or formulas, so the multiplier is editable and a plain proportional conversion is shown alongside it.
CGPA to percentage formula
Percentage = CGPA × multiplier (CBSE multiplier = 9.5)
Simple proportional scale: Percentage = CGPA ÷ maximum CGPA × 100.
Worked example
CGPA 8.2 with the CBSE multiplier: 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.90%. On the simple proportional scale (8.2 ÷ 10 × 100) the same CGPA gives 82.00%, which is why you should only use the factor your board or university prescribes.
How to use this calculator
- Enter your CGPA (default 8.2).
- Keep the multiplier at 9.5 for CBSE or enter the factor your institution states.
- Check the maximum CGPA of your scale (10 for most Indian systems).
- Select Calculate to see the percentage.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
Multiply your CGPA by the conversion factor used by your board or university. CBSE uses 9.5, so a CGPA of 8.0 is about 76%.
Is the CGPA to percentage conversion official?
Only if you apply the rule your institution publishes. Employers and admission offices may ask for the official equivalence certificate instead of a calculated value.
How do I find my CGPA first?
Add up credit points across all semesters and divide by total credits, or start from each semester with the SGPA Calculator and the GPA Calculator.
Can I convert percentage back to CGPA?
Yes. Divide the percentage by the same multiplier, for example 76% ÷ 9.5 = 8.0 CGPA.
The converted percentage is an approximation based on the multiplier you enter. Confirm the rule with your board, university or the organisation asking for it.
