Supplemental-wage assumption
This estimator uses the IRS optional 22% federal withholding rate for qualifying supplemental wages. Different rules can apply, including a mandatory 37% rate to supplemental wages above the applicable $1 million threshold.
Official methodology
Federal income-tax withholding uses the IRS 2026 Publication 15-T percentage method for automated payroll systems and a 2020-or-later Form W-4. Social Security uses 6.2% up to the 2026 $184,500 wage base; Medicare uses 1.45% with no wage base, and employer withholding of Additional Medicare Tax begins above $200,000 of wages.
