How this calculator works

The calculator adds your zakatable assets, subtracts debts that are due now, and compares the net amount with the nisab you enter. If the net wealth is at or above nisab, zakat is the chosen rate (2.5% by default) of the net wealth. Otherwise the result is zero.

Zakat formula

Net wealth = (cash + gold + silver + investments + business assets + other assets) − debts due

Zakat = net wealth × 2.5% when net wealth ≥ nisab.

Worked example

Cash 4,000, gold 3,000, silver 500, investments 2,000 and business assets 1,500 give 11,000 in assets. Subtracting 1,000 of debts due gives net wealth of 10,000, which is above a nisab of 4,500. Zakat = 10,000 × 2.5% = 250.00.

About nisab

Nisab is the minimum wealth on which zakat becomes due. It is commonly set at the value of 87.48 g of gold or 612.36 g of silver, and the two give very different thresholds. Look up the current price in your currency, calculate the value and type it into the nisab box. Which standard to use is a matter on which scholars differ, so follow the guidance you trust.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your assets in one currency.
  2. Enter debts that are due now under Debts and liabilities.
  3. Type the current nisab value in the same currency.
  4. Select Calculate to see the zakat due.
